To create fused glass mirrors, the art glass is placed in a kiln and exposed to a specific amount of heat for a controlled amount of time. The more heat and time, the more the glass melts. If the glass is exposed to lower heat for less time, it melts less. The unique look of By the Sea, is achieved by firing the glass multiple times at different temperatures. The colors of the full fused linear design elements represent the sky and sea, while the coral "frit" represents sand giving the overall mirror a fresh natural feel.
